Terbinex: Side Effects, Overdose and Pregnancy Information
Main ingredient in Terbinex is Terbinafine. Terbinex is an anti-fungal medicine comes in tablets, cream and as
solution. The Terbinex tablets are used to treat fungus of the skin,
toenail, or fingernail while the cream and the solution are given for
other fungal infections such as athlete's foot, jock itch, ringworm, as
well as Candida. While most antifungal only stop fungus from growing, Terbinex is rather
unique as it builds up in the skin and keeps on killing the fungus even
after its use is discontinued.
TERBINEX SIDE EFFECTS
Side effects of Terbinex cream and solution are rare. Common
side effects of Terbinex include burning, itching, peeling, and rash. Side effects of
Terbinex tablets include diarrhea, upset stomach, rash, hives, itching,
nausea, vision problems, vomiting, and fever.
TERBINEX CAUTION
Inform your physician right away, if you observe any changes in your
vision while taking the Terbinex tablets.
Terbinex tablets are not recommended if you have liver or kidney
disease. In rare cases, liver damage has been reported.
Terbinex tablets may also cause severe skin reactions in some
individuals. If you experience worsening of the skin problem, stop using
the Terbinex tablets and inform your physician right away.
Do not use Terbinex cream or solution near the eye, mouth, nose, or
vagina. In the case of an accidental contact, rinse them with running
water and seek medical help right away.
Terbinex is not recommended for
children.
TERBINEX INTERACTIONS
Check with your doctor before combining Terbinex tablets with the
following:
Antidepressants
Beta-blockers
Cimetidine
Cyclosporine
Rifampin
Terbinex may enhance the effects of caffeine.
TERBINEX AND PREGNANCY
Treatment with Terbinex should not begin during pregnancy.
Nursing mothers should switch to bottle-feed as Terbinex tablets do
appear in breast milk. Avoid applying Terbinex cream or solution to the
breast.
TERBINEX DOSES
TABLETS
The recommended dose is a single 250 mg tablet daily for
6-12 weeks.
CREAM
Apply a small amount to the affected areas twice daily
for up to 4 weeks and no less than 7 days.
SOLUTION
Apply to the affected areas twice daily for 1 week.
TERBINEX OVERDOSE
Symptoms of overdose with Terbinex tablets may include nausea, vomiting,
dizziness, frequent urination, and headache.
If you suspect an overdose with Terbinex tablets, seek medical help
right away.
