Ambien is a sleeping pill used as a short-term treatment of insomnia. Ambien is fairly new medicine and is chemically different from other common sleep aids. By comparison, to other sleep aids Ambien has modest muscle relaxing action and that is why it has less of a hangover effect on people. Ambien's goal is to reduce the time between going to bed and falling asleep. Ambien is for temporary use of week to 10days maximum and should not be used for longer period of time. If insomnia lasts longer than 10days then it could be a symptom of another problem.
