Anaprox Side Effects, Overdose and Pregnancy Information

Anaprox is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain and inflammation. Anaprox is generally used for rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, menstrual cramps, muscle strains, bursitis, tendonitis, gout, and other pains. Main ingredient in Anaprox is Naproxen. Anaprox is also used to reduce fever. Anaprox is available by over the counter (OTC) as well as by prescription. Anaprox works by blocking and reducing the level of prostaglandis. Prostaglandins is a chemical produced in the body in response to injury and certain diseases and conditions and is responsible for causing inflammation, pain and fever. Anaprox tablets should be taken with food to help avoid stomach irritation.

Anaprox Side Effects


Anaprox side effects may include, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, fluid retention and swelling, heartburn, indigestion, nausea, nervousness, rash, and vomiting. Rare Anaprox side effects include, abdominal bleeding, blood in urine, blurred vision, changes in heartbeat, confusion, depression, dry eyes, hives, inability to sleep, kidney or liver damage, severe allergic reactions, shortness of breath, sleepiness, stomach ulcer, vomiting blood, painful urination. Ulcers or internal bleeding can happen especially when Anaprox is used for long time or in large doses. Stop taking Anaprox and contact your doctor right away if you experience abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, heartburn and or vomiting of blood as this could be a sign of serious drug reactions such as internal bleeding or ulcers. Your physician will prescribe you the lowest effective dose of Anaprox for the shortest possible time necessary to relieve your symptoms. This is to minimize the chances of any Anaprox side effects from occuring mainly those mentioned above.

ANAPROX CAUTION



Do not take Anaprox if you have history of ulcers, colitis, bleeding disorder, asthma, high blood pressure or other heart conditions, liver or kidney condition.

In addition, you should not take Anaprox if you are sensitive to or have ever had an allergic reaction to aspirin, including asthma attacks caused by aspirin.

Anaprox contains sodium. If you are on a low sodium diet, consult with your physician first.

Peptic ulcers and bleeding can occur without warning.

Do not take Anaprox for more than 10 days for pain or 3 days for fever.

Anaprox may cause dizziness or drowsiness and may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery safely.

NSAIDs such as Anaprox may be linked with a small increase in the risk of experiencing a heart attack or stroke. Any risk is more likely with high doses and prolonged treatment. If you have heart problems, have ever had a stroke or think that you might be at risk of these conditions you should discuss your treatment with your physician or pharmacist.

Anaprox should be used with caution in seniors, people with history of disorders of stomach or intestines such as Crohn's disease or colitis decreased kidney or liver functions, heart failure, high blood pressure (hypertension), angina or history of heart attack, disease of the blood vessels in and around the brain, history of stroke or mini stroke, poor circulation, diabetes, blood clotting disorders, and asthma.

ANAPROX AND PREGNANCY



Consult your physician before taking Anaprox if you are pregnant or nursing. Anaprox should be avoided in late pregnancy.

NSAIDs such as Anaprox should also be avoided by women attempting to conceive, as it may reduce female fertility during treatment and may also increase the risk of miscarriage or malformations.

Anaprox passes into breast milk. Nursing mothers should switch to bottle-feed while taking Anaprox.

ANAPROX DOSES



Children: Not recommended for children under 12.

Adults: 1 tablet every 8-12 hours, not to exceed 3 per day.

ANAPROX DRUG INTERACTION



Always inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, including vitamins and herbs.

Anaprox should not be taken in combination with other painkillers such as Aspirin or ibuprofen, as this increases the risk of side effects on the stomach and intestines. Other COX-2 inhibitors should also be avoided for the same reason.

There may be an increased risk of ulceration or bleeding in the stomach if Anaprox is taken with corticosteroids or with the following drugs:

Anti-blood-clotting (anticoagulant) drugs
Anti-platelet drugs
SSRI antidepressants
Check with your physician before combining Anaprox with the following: Blood pressure medicines such as ACE inhibitors and beta-blockers
Blood thinners
Lithium
Diuretics
Methotrexate

Do not combine Anaprox with herbs like Garlic, Ginkgo and Ginseng.

ANAPROX OVERDOSE


Symptoms of Anaprox overdose may include ,depression, abdominal pain, short breath, drowsiness, irregular heartbeat, kidney failure, low blood pressure, nausea, seizures, and vomiting. In case of an Anaprox overdose, seek medical attention right away. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. However, if it is just about time for your next dose, skip the one you forgot and go on with your regular schedule. Never take a double dose of Anaprox.
