Clarinex is used to relieve the symptoms of seasonal allergies and hay fever such as itchy, runny nose, sneezing, and watery eyes as well as symptoms of allergic reactions like hives or swelling. Clarinex blocks the release of chemical histamine in the body during an allergic reaction, resulting in drying up secretions of the nose, throat and eyes. Clarinex is considered less sedative than other antihistamine medicines. Main ingredient in Clarinex is Desloratadine.

CLARINEX CAUTION



Avoid Clarinex if you are allergic to Loratadine.

Those with liver or kidney problems should use smaller dosage of Clarinex.

Use caution when combining Clarinex with an MAO-inhibitor.

CLARINEX INETRACTION



The antihistamine in Clarinex, Loratadine may interact with ketoconazole, erythromycin as well as theophylline. If you are using any of these, consult with your physician before using Clarinex.

Cimetidine can increase the level of Loratadine in the blood.

Combining Clarinex with alcohol may increase the effects of alcohol.

Avoid caffeine (tea, coffee, sodas) and grapefruit juice while taking Clarinex.

Avoid using herbs while taking Clarinex. Some may increase drowsiness.

CLARINEX AND PREGNANCY



Though generally considered safe, do not take Clarinex without the advice of your physician if you are or planning to become pregnant, especially during the last three months of pregnancy.

Nursing mothers should switch to bottle-feed while taking Clarinex as it does pass into breast milk.

CLARINEX OVERDOSE


Symptoms of Clarinex overdose may include drowsiness, headache, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, nausea, nervousness, and dry mouth. In case of Clarinex overdose, seek medical help right away. If you miss a dose of Clarinex, take it as soon as you can. However, if it is just about time for your next dose, skip the one you forgot and go on with your regular schedule. Never take a double dose.
