Claritin Side Effects, Overdose and Pregnancy Information
Claritin side effects may include headache, dry mouth, drowsiness, fatigue, and indigestion. Rare Claritin side effects may include nausea, anxiety, nervousness
(when taken with caffeine), rapid heartbeat, cough, stuffy nose, and throat irritation.

Claritin blocks the release of
chemical histamine in the body during an allergic reaction, resulting in
drying up secretions of the nose, throat and eyes. Claritin is used to relieve the symptoms of
seasonal allergies and hay fever such as itchy, runny nose, sneezing, and
watery eyes as well as symptoms of allergic reactions like hives or
swelling. Claritin is considered less sedative than other antihistamine medicines. Main ingredient in Claritin is Loratadine.
Claritin Overdose
Symptoms of Claritin overdose may include drowsiness, headache, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, nausea, nervousness, and dry mouth. In case of Claritin overdose, seek medical help right away. If you miss a dose of Claritin, take it as soon as you can. However, if it is just about time for your next dose, skip the one you forgot and go on with your regular schedule. Never take a double dose of Claritin.
Claritin Pregnancy
Though generally considered safe, do not take Claritin without the
advice of your physician if you are or planning to become pregnant,
especially during the last three months of pregnancy.
Nursing mothers should switch to bottle-feed while taking Claritin as
it does pass into breast milk.
CLARITIN CAUTION
Avoid Claritin if you are allergic to Loratadine.
Those with liver or kidney problems should use smaller dosage of
Claritin.
Use caution when combining Claritin with an MAO-inhibitor.
CLARITIN INETRACTION
The antihistamine in Claritin, Loratadine may interact with
ketoconazole, erythromycin as well as theophylline. If you are using any
of these, consult with your physician before using Claritin.
Cimetidine can increase the level of Loratadine in the blood.
Combining Claritin with alcohol may increase the effects of
alcohol.
Avoid caffeine (tea, coffee, sodas) and grapefruit juice while taking
Claritin.
Avoid using herbs while taking Claritin. Some may increase
drowsiness.
