EC-Naprosyn

EC-Naprosyn is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) used to relieve pain and inflammation. EC-Naprosyn is generally used for rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, menstrual cramps, muscle strains, bursitis, tendonitis, gout, and other pains. EC-Naprosyn is also used to reduce fever. EC-Naprosyn is available by over the counter (OTC) as well as by prescription. EC-Naprosyn reduces the level of harmful chemicals in the body, prostaglandins, which produce inflammation resulting in pain.


SIDE EFFECTS


Ulcers or internal bleeding can happen especially when EC-Naprosyn is used for long time or in large doses. More common side effects may include, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, fluid retention and swelling, heartburn, indigestion, nausea, nervousness, rash, and vomiting.


Rare side effects of EC-Naprosyn may include, abdominal bleeding, blood in urine, blurred vision, changes in heartbeat, confusion, depression, dry eyes, hives, inability to sleep, kidney or liver damage, severe allergic reactions, shortness of breath, sleepiness, stomach ulcer, vomiting blood, painful urination.


Stop taking EC-Naprosyn and contact your doctor right away if you experience abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea heartburn and or vomiting of blood as this could be a sign of serious drug reactions such as internal bleeding or ulcers.

 

CAUTION

 

Do not take EC-Naprosyn if you have history of ulcers, colitis, bleeding disorder, asthma, high blood pressure or other heart conditions, liver or kidney condition.


In addition, you should not take EC-Naprosyn if you are sensitive to or have ever had an allergic reaction to aspirin, including asthma attacks caused by aspirin.


EC-Naprosyn contains sodium. If you are on a low sodium diet, consult with your physician first.


Peptic ulcers and bleeding can occur without warning.


Do not take EC-Naprosyn for more than 10 days for pain or 3 days for fever.


Consult your doctor before taking EC-Naprosyn if you are pregnant or nursing. EC-Naprosyn should be avoided in late pregnancy.

 

DOSES


Children: Consult your physician.


Adults: 1 tablet every 8-12 hours, not to exceed 3 per day.



DRUG INTERACTION

 

Always inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, including vitamins and herbs. Check with your physician before combining EC-Naprosyn with the following:


Blood pressure medicines such as ACE inhibitors and beta-blockers
Blood thinners
Combining other NSAID such as ibuprofen (Advil) or Aspirin.
Lithium
Diuretics
Methotrexate

Do not combine EC-Naprosyn with herbs like Garlic, Ginkgo and Ginseng.

 

OVERDOSE

Any drug taken in excess of usual dose can have serious consequences. If overdose occurs, seek medical attention immediately.

Symptoms of EC-Naprosyn overdose may include ,depression, abdominal pain, short breath, drowsiness, irregular heartbeat, kidney failure, low blood pressure, nausea, seizures, and vomiting.
