Intal Side Effects, Overdose and Pregnancy Information
Intal side effects are cough, throat irritation, breathing difficulties due to a narrowing of the airways, headache, dizziness, bad taste and nausea. Rare Intal side effects may include hives, itching, nosebleeds, swelling of eyelids, lips or face.
Intal Side Effects Reporting
If you experience any Intal side effects not mentioned above you should report it to your primary health care provider or FDA 1-800-FDA-1088 in the United States, Health Canada 1-866-225-0709 in Canada, MHRA 020 3080 6000 in UK, or TGA 1800 020 653 in Australia.
Intal is an anti-inflammatory drug that is not a corticosteroid. Intal works by preventing tissues becoming inflamed during an allergic reaction by preventing the release of inflammatory chemicals from cells called mast cells Mast cells are cells in the immune system that become sensitized in response to allergens. They release chemicals such as histamine that causes inflammation as part of the body's allergic response. This inflammation in the lungs causes mucus production and narrows the airways, making it difficult to breathe. Intal reduces the inflammation in the lungs, making it easier to breathe and helps prevent asthma attacks. Intal should be used on a regular basis, even when there is no symptom of asthma. Main ingredient in Intal is Sodium Cromoglicate.
Intal can also be used for the prevention of shortness of breath caused by physical activity. Intal is taken by inhalation. Inhaling allows Intal to act directly in the lungs where it is needed most. Inhaling Intal also reduces the likelihood for side effects occurring in other parts of the body. Intal fisonair is an inhaler that is connected to a plastic chamber. The dose from the inhaler is sprayed into the plastic chamber, from where it can be inhaled. Intal spincaps are capsules containing Intal that are used in an inhaler device called a spinhaler. The spinhaler punctures the capsule and the patient then inhales the powder through the spinhaler. Intal should not be taken by mouth, as it is not effective this way.
Intal Overdose
Intal overdose symptoms are augmented side effects. In case of Intal overdose, seek medical help right away. If you miss a dose of Intal, take it as soon as you can. However, if it is just about time for your next dose, skip the one you forgot and go on with your regular schedule. Never take a double dose of Intal.
Intal and Pregnancy
It is imperative that asthma is well controlled during pregnancy. Wherever possible, asthma medications should be taken by inhaler, as this minimizes the amount of medicine that enters the bloodstream and crosses the placenta. Intal has no adverse effects on the fetus. However, it should still only be used with caution during pregnancy. It is not known if Intal passes into breast milk. However, the amount of medicine that passes into the breast milk after using an inhaler is negligible and probably too small to be harmful to the baby.
Intal Warning
Intal should not be used to relieve an asthma attack. Intal is a preventive drug and it should be taken regularly to prevent asthma attacks.
Asthma attacks need to be treated with drugs known as relievers such as Ventolin inhaler and others.
Intal should not be stop suddenly unless your physician tells you to.
Inhalers may cause an increase in wheezing right after using them. If this happens, stop using this drug right away and consult your physician. This problem may be solved by using reliever inhaler such as Ventolin a few minutes before using Intal, to help open the airways.
