NuvaRing Side Effects, Overdose and Pregnancy Information

NuvaRing side effects may include abdominal pain, vaginal discharge, acne, and fluid retention. Other NuvaRing side effects include bloating, blood clots, chest pain, hair loss, headache, heart attack, high blood pressure, kidney problem, migraine, leg pain, nausea, sex drive changes, skin discoloration, stroke, vomiting, and weight gain or loss.

NuvaRing (Vaginal Ring) is used to prevent pregnancy. NuvaRing (Vaginal Ring) is a synthetic form of female sex hormones produced naturally in the body, progestin, and estrogen. These hormones suppress the pituitary glands activity thus hindering ovulation; alter the mucus at the cervix opening to prevent sperm from entering, and their variable levels play a vital role in fertility in women. NuvaRing releases small quantities of a progestin (etonogestrel) and an estrogen (estradiol) in the vaginal canal over a 3-week period. Contraceptive like NuvaRing are associated with risks. These risks increase in women over age 35, smokers and who have hypertension. Main Ingredients in NuvaRing are Estrogen (low dose) + Progestin (low dose).

NUVARING DOSE

NuvaRing should be inserted and kept in the vaginal canal for 3 weeks. A new NuvaRing should be replaced exactly 1 week after the removal. For better management always insert and remove NuvaRing on the same day of the week.

SPECIAL INFORMATION ABOUT NUVARING

If the NuvaRing is unintentionally expelled during its regular 3 weeks period, rinse it off with cold water and replace it within 3 hours. Avoid using hot water. If that NuvaRing is not reusable, replace it with a new one and keep it for the remaining days of the 3 week timeframe.

NUVARING WARNING

Avoid using contraceptives including NuvaRing if you are or might be pregnant.

Avoid smoking as it enhances the risk of heart-related side effects in women who use contraceptives like NuvaRing. The risk is even greater in women over 35.

Avoid using NuvaRing if you have had an allergic reaction to any oral contraceptives in the past.

Avoid NuvaRing if you are a migraine sufferer.

Avoid taking NuvaRing if you or someone in your family has ever had breast cancer or cancer of the reproductive system or liver problems.

Avoid NuvaRing if you have or ever had a stroke, heart disease, liver disease, chest pain, or blood clots.

Avoid NuvaRing if you have had pregnancy related jaundice or jaundice resulting from previous use of any oral contraceptives.

Avoid NuvaRing if you have experienced abnormal vaginal bleeding.

NUVARING CAUTION

NuvaRing should be used with caution if you are:

-Over 40
-Smoker
-Have liver, heart, gallbladder, kidney, or thyroid disease
-Have high blood pressure
-High cholesterol
-Diabetes
-Epilepsy
-Asthma
-Porphyria
-Obese
-Stroke or heart attack in the past
-Depression
-Family history of breast cancer or other cancers
-NuvaRing does not protect against HIV (AIDS), or other STDs.
-If you experience abdominal pain, contact your physician right away.
