Ocufen Side Effects, Overdose and Pregnancy Information

Ocufen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) used to relieve pain and inflammation. Ocufen is generally used for rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, menstrual cramps, muscle strains, bursitis, tendonitis, gout, and other pains. Ocufen is also used to reduce fever. Ocufen is available by over the counter (OTC) as well as by prescription. Ocufen reduces the level of harmful chemicals in the body, prostaglandins, which produce inflammation resulting in pain.

Ocufen Side Effects

Ocufen side effects may include, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, fluid retention and swelling, heartburn, indigestion, nausea, nervousness, rash, and vomiting. Rare Ocufen side effects include abdominal bleeding, blood in urine, blurred vision, changes in heartbeat, confusion, depression, dry eyes, hives, inability to sleep, kidney or liver damage, severe allergic reactions, shortness of breath, sleepiness, stomach ulcer, vomiting blood, painful urination. Ulcers or internal bleeding can happen especially when Ocufen is used for long time or in large doses. Stop taking Ocufen and contact your doctor right away if you experience abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea heartburn and or vomiting of blood as this could be a sign of serious drug reactions such as internal bleeding or ulcers.

OCUFEN CAUTION



Do not take Ocufen if you have history of ulcers, colitis, bleeding disorder, asthma, high blood pressure or other heart conditions, liver or kidney condition.

In addition, you should not take Ocufen if you are sensitive to or have ever had an allergic reaction to aspirin, including asthma attacks caused by aspirin.

Ocufen contains sodium. If you are on a low sodium diet, consult with your physician first.

Peptic ulcers and bleeding can occur without warning.

Do not take Ocufen for more than 10 days for pain or 3 days for fever.

OCUFEN AND PREGNANCY

Consult your physician before taking Ocufen if you are pregnant as it may cause heart defects in fetus. Ocufen should be avoided in late pregnancy. Nursing mothers should switch to bottle-feed while taking Ocufen.

OCUFEN DOSES



Children: Not recommended for children.

Adults: 200-300mg per day in divided doses.

OCUFEN INTERACTION



Always inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, including vitamins and herbs. Check with your physician before combining Ocufen with the following:

Blood pressure medicines such as ACE inhibitors and beta-blockers
Blood thinners
Combining other NSAID such as ibuprofen (Advil) or Aspirin.
Lithium
Diuretics
Methotrexate

Do not combine Ocufen with herbs like Garlic, Ginkgo and Ginseng.

OCUFEN OVERDOSE



Symptoms of Ocufen overdose may include ,depression, abdominal pain, short breath, drowsiness, irregular heartbeat, kidney failure, low blood pressure, nausea, seizures, and vomiting.

Any drug taken in excess of usual dose can have serious consequences. In case of Ocufen overdose, seek medical attention right away.
