Tenormin
Main Ingredient: Atenolol
Tenormin is a type of drug known as a Beta-Blocker. Tenormin is used to
treat hypertension (high blood pressure), angina (chest pain), and heart
attack and also migraine headaches and anxiety. Beta-blockers like
Tenormin do not cure high blood pressure, they simply keeps it under
control by blocking nerve impulses, which slows the heart rate.
Treatment with Tenormin can be life long. Tenormin should be taken regularly for it to be effective. It may be
several weeks before you get the full benefit of Tenormin.
Tenormin Side Effects
Common side effects of
Tenormin include impotence, general fatigue, dizziness, loss of libido,
nausea. Rare side effects of Tenormin may include
constipation, depression, diarrhea, dizziness upon standing up,
drowsiness, light-headedness, tiredness, vertigo,
wheezing.
Tenormin Warning
Tenormin must
not be stopped abruptly. That could cause heart attack, stroke or
even death. Prescribed dose should be reduced gradually over 1-2 weeks.
Do not miss any doses.
If you miss a dose, take the dose as soon as possible. However,
if it is almost time of your next scheduled dose, skip the one you missed
and go back to your regular schedule. Never take 2 doses at the same
time.
Tenormin Caution
Talk to your
physician if you have asthma, seasonal allergies, other bronchial
condition, heart problems, kidney disease, liver disease, or low blood
pressure before taking Tenormin. Do not miss any doses.

Tenormin Interactions
Tell your
doctor about any medicine or herbs you are taking. Following drugs
interacts with Tenormin:
Ampicillin
Antacids
Aspirin or
aspirin containing drugs.
Blood pressure drugs
Calcium
supplements
Ephedra
Ginseng
Insulin
Other diabetes drugs
such as Quinidine
Saw palmetto.
Tenormin and Pregnancy
As with any drug, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or
nursing. Pregnant women who took Tenormin had infants with lower birth weights and low blood pressure. Nursing mothers should switch to bottle-feed while on Tenormin.
Tenormin Doses
ADULTS
The usual
starting dose range from 25- 50 mg a day. Full effects could take
couple of weeks. Dosage may be increased to a maximum of 100 milligrams
per day in one dose. Your physician may use this medication with any other
high blood pressure drug. Tenormin can be taken with or without
food.
CHILDREN
The safety and effectiveness of Tenormin has not
been established in children.
SENIORS
Your doctor will determine
the dosage.
Tenormin Overdose
Symptoms of Tenormin overdose may include congestive heart failure,
low blood pressure, low,blood sugar, slow heartbeat, sluggishness,
weakness and wheezing.
In case of
Tenormin overdose, seek medical attention right away.
