Tretinoin

Tretinoin is primarily used to treat acne. Tretinoin, a subsidiary of vitamin A is also given to reduce, skin damage caused by chronic sun exposure as well as skin cancer and acute promyelocytic leukemia.


Studies have shown that regular use of Tretinoin may even reverse the wrinkling process in some individuals.


CAUTION


Avoid using Tretinoin if you are sensitive or allergic to any of its components.


Avoid sun exposure and sunlamps to the treated areas. Otherwise, use sunscreen and shades.


Avoid using Tretinoin near your eyes, or the nose.


Tretinoin may cause the cholesterol level and white blood cell count to increase in some people.


Avoid using Tretinoin if you have eczema or any other skin conditions, this could cause severe irritation.


Tretinoin is flammable; keep it away from high temperature and flame.

TRETINOIN SIDE EFFECTS

Common side effects are burning, tingling, itching, blistering, or discoloration of the skin or hypersensitivity to the sun.


Side effects go away after the use of Tretinoin is discontinued. Some rare side effects like hearing loss or paralysis of the face have also been reported.


TRETINOIN INTERACTION


Check with your physician before combining Tretinoin with the following:

Skin care products like Benzoyl peroxide or Salicylic acid
Dyes
Products containing alcohol
Skin drying products
Preparations containing sulfur
Resorcinol


Avoid using Tretinoin if you are using any other drug that increases sensitivity to sun including:

Antibiotics like Cipro, Noroxin, and tetracycline
Major tranquilizers
Sulfa drugs
Thiazide drugs


TRETINOIN AND PREGNANCY


Avoid using Tretinoin if you are or planning to become pregnant as this may cause birth defects.


Nursing mothers should switch to bottle-feed while using Tretinoin.


TRETINOIN DOSES


CHILDREN
Not recommended for children.


ADULTS
Apply a thin layer once daily in the evening. Avoid using excessive amount.


Wash you face thoroughly and then wait half hour before applying Tretinoin.


TRETINOIN OVERDOSE


Applying too much Tretinoin will result in skin irritation and is not going to produce faster or superior results.


Tretinoin is for external use only. If accidental ingestion occurs, seek medical help right away.
