Bilberry

Bilberry is an astringent shrub, grows in the forested areas of Europe, as well as North America and Asia. Bilberry has a creeping rhizome and numerous leafy green and angled stems.

 

Bilberry is used for acute diarrhea and inflammation of the mouth and pharynx. Bilberry is also considered helpful in the treatment cataracts and glaucoma because its bioflavonoid content and antioxidant properties.

 

Bilberry's powerful antioxidants are helpful in the prevention and treatment of Diabetes Mellitus by lowering blood sugar level and in diabetic retinopathy, by improving retinal blood circulation and reducing blood leakage in capillaries.


Bilberry acts as an antihistamine, and has anti-diarrhea properties. Bilberry's high bioflavonoid and chromium is responsible its antidiabetic effects.


Side effects from Bilberry berries are rare, though high or prolong use of its leaves may be toxic. If you experience any side effects, stop using Bilberry right away and report it to your health care provider.

 

CAUTION


Do not use Bilberry if you have Anemia.


Pregnant or nursing women should consult their doctor first before using Bilberry.


DOSES


80-160mg of capsule three times a day. Bilberry can be taken as an infusion, follow the package directions.


Both the leaves and the berries can be taken as a capsule, pill, tea, or tincture. However, Germany's Commission E only recognizes Bilberry's berries as an herb.
