Paliperidone Palmitate works by restoring the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain. Paliperidone Palmitate can reduce hallucinations. Paliperidone Palmitate also lessens nervousness or feelings of agitation and may make patients think more clearly.

Paliperidone Palmitate Side Effects



Common side effects of Paliperidone Palmitate include dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, weight gain, or swelling at the injection site may occur. Paliperidone Palmitate may increase blood sugar level. If you are diabetic be sure to check your blood sugar level regularly. Rare side effects of Paliperidone Palmitate include restlessness, fever, persistent sore throat, difficulty swallowing, fainting, extreme dizziness, irregular heartbeat and seizures. If you experience any Paliperidone Palmitate side effects not listed above then contact your doctor or pharmacist or FDA right away.


Paliperidone Palmitate Warning


Fatal side effects such as stroke and heart failure are possible when Paliperidone Palmitate is used in older adults with dementia. Paliperidone Palmitate is not approved for the treatment of dementia-related behavior problems.

Avoid alcohol.

Avoid extreme heat. Paliperidone Palmitate can cause water retention which could increase body temperature to dangerous levels, resulting in heat stroke.

Rarely Paliperidone Palmitate may increase blood level of a hormone prolactin. In females, an increased prolactin levels may result in unwanted breast milk, missed/stopped periods, or difficulty becoming pregnant. In males, it may result in decreased sexual ability, inability to produce sperm, or enlarged breasts. If any of these symptoms develop, contact your doctor right away.

Before using Paliperidone Palmitate, tell your doctor if you have/or had any of the following:

Diabetes

Kidney disease

Leucopenia (low white blood cell count)

Seizures

Parkinson's disease

Alzheimer's disease

Heart attack

Stroke

Breast cancer

Paliperidone Palmitate Interaction


These drugs might increase seizure risk when combined with Paliperidone Palmitate such as bupropion, isoniazid (INH), phenothiazines (thioridazine), tramadol, theophylline, or tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline), and others.

Sedatives like alcohol, antihistamines (cetirizine, diphenhydramine), drugs for sleep aid or anxiety (alprazolam, diazepam, zolpidem), muscle relaxants, and narcotic pain relievers (codeine).

Anticholinergics (such as belladonna alkaloids, benztropine, scopolamine)

Carbamazepine

Parkinson's disease medication such as levodopa, dopamine agonists, bromocriptine.

High blood pressure medicine such as alpha blockers like prazosin, ACE inhibitors like lisinopril.

Risperidone

Paliperidone Palmitate Overdose


Symptoms of Paliperidone Palmitate overdose may include extreme drowsiness or dizziness, irregular heartbeat, muscular spasms, restlessness, unusual or uncontrolled movements.

Paliperidone Palmitate and Pregnancy


Notify your doctor if you become pregnant or intend to become pregnant while taking Paliperidone Palmitate. Nursing infants is not recommended for those taking this medicine.
